Why are you born? In the life of every living being – we can make charts to identify the life pattern, habits, personality and other things for someone – but have you though about as to what is the reason a person is born and which karmas would need to be fulfilled in life in order for you to leave the body?
The Natural Atmakaraka is Surya Dev , but Sun is the Fixed significator of one’s Soul as mentioned in the classics. Similarly there is the Char Karakas which denote the progress of one’s soul and the bondage associated – that is the Atmakaraka within the chart. As one’s soul moves from Point A to Point B due to certain Karam or Desires – there is always progress in either forward or backward direction depending on the actions.
Each individual goes through different situations in one’s life – One may not be inclined to get name and fame as his desires may be family , or even one may decide to stay unmarried due to spirituality , etc – there has to be a reason as to why only certain significations will play a major role in deciding the karam and actions that one will take – Let us try to understand the concept and the Practical use of the Atmakaraka.
Each planet has its own Progression throughout the Zodiac – as a Planet may attain the spot of Ak, another planet will be at a different stage , attaining some other charkarak. Since Atmakaraka is the planet with the highest degree – that planet , within that Energy span (Rashi) has gained the most amount of experience , i.e. made the most amount of Progress and will now have a say among all the events – just like the King has a say in everything that one’s country is going through.
The calculation is always done in degrees for the Atmakaraka and never in minutes or seconds as proposed by some school of thoughts and the reason is due to the Movement of Sun.
The Atmakaraka is similar to the position of the Lagna in one’s chart – if the Lagna is damaged the energy of the whole chart will go down – similarly if the Atmakaraka is strong , the negative effects of the whole chart will also reduce immensely (Please refer to Jaimini Sutram for more details).
The way to see this situation firstly is to use the significations of the planets which attain this Position , and eventually consider the lords of the houses the Ak is ruling – this has already been explained in the Atmakaraka book – please refer to the book for additional details but we will also be focusing on live examples below:
Chart 1:
In this chart the Atmakaraka being Venus shows that one’s focus and prime involvement will be related with Money, Family, Gathering resources, Medicines and Partners in life. Being the 7th and 12th lord shows that one has to move out of their birthplace or spend a lot of money for one’s family (Parents, Wife, Kids, etc) and make sure that they make their parents proud. The combination in this specific chart shows that one has to make long term plans for their finances and take care of the health issues of their family – as the native will not be able to use his own hard earned money for himself. It was predicted to the client and although his career is Good and Stable – his prime focus will be his family throughout his life and he would have to take care of his mother due as he will be attached to her very closely – now in order to take care of one’s parents they do have to earn as well – hence Similarly it was said that the native would be financially stable and would also have long term investment.
The native agreed on all the significations , except that he is still unmarried.
Chart 2:
This chart is actually a Prashna which was made by the consultant and the query was for Marriage – hence we will see the Atmakaraka for understanding the overall situation of the native. Moon being the Ak the native would be emotional but due to the affliction of Mars and no benefic aspects over Moon – the emotions will be driven in the wrong way through aggression, stubbornness or even through verbal abuse. It was predicted that the situation had become worse in the Dasha of Venus – Mercury and can lead to physical separation – to which the native confirmed that the wife is already living away from the native due to fights. It was said that not to go for divorce now as it will be very hectic and will incur additional troubles – and instead to be in this marriage by adjusting.
